Monument
Acer Aspire 5610Z | Owned from 2024
Monument is the first old PC that I bought for the purpose of revisiting older operating systems. I bought it on a whim from eBay due to being cheap, unwanted, and being a fully working package apart from needing an OS install.
This machine would've shipped in 2007 with Windows Vista but I chose to install Windows XP as I have more nostalgia for that operating system as well as it being lighter on the weak GPU. I plan to replace the hard drive at some point but apart from this the system will stay relatively the same.
I really like the look of Monument as well as the mix of both legacy and modern features like USB, PCMCIA, optical media, and S-Video. It's a really pretty machine even though it's scuffed and scratched. The only oddity is that it has a Spanish keyboard when I bought it online from the UK, so it's probably seen some travelling too!
The laptop was made around early 2007 with a tag near the CPU dated December 30th, 2006 and a sticker on the hard drive dated May 1st, 2007.
